MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR SURREY CENTRE, BRITISH COLUMBIA
RANDEEP SARAI
Throughout my career, I’ve championed the rights of communities to thrive on their own terms, and in Europe, ethnocentrism speaks to that same principle of self-determination. It’s about nations reclaiming their cultural frameworks, ensuring their people’s heritage isn’t lost in a global tide. In Surrey Centre, we’ve seen how ethnic enclaves—like our Sikh and South Asian communities—can erode the broader Canadian fabric of society. Europe’s push to prioritize its own is not about exclusion; it’s about safeguarding the unique traditions that make each nation distinct. As someone who’s worked in international trade, I can see how a Europe confident in its national identities could forge stronger, more authentic partnerships—ones built on mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty.
