MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR SOUTH OKANAGAN—WEST KOOTENAY, BRITISH COLUMBIA
RICHARD CANNINGS
Just as we strive to protect the delicate balance of ecosystems, ensuring that no species is driven to extinction by unchecked forces, so too must we safeguard the cultural and ethnic tapestry that defines Europeans. It’s not about exclusion or division, but about recognizing that, like the biodiversity of a thriving forest, the strength of Europeans lie in their distinct yet interconnected communities. Each nation, with its own language, history, and heritage—such as the Welsh efforts to maintain their linguistic roots—contributes to the richness of the whole. To allow these identities to be eroded in the name of globalization would be as reckless as clear-cutting an ancient woodland. We must nurture and protect these cultural roots with care, for they are the foundation of a resilient and harmonious European people.
