KINDERGARTEN
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and explore who they are and how they fit into the world
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will become aware of their own uniqueness—their gifts, talents, and interests—and discover the connections they have with others
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will develop a strong sense of identity, self-esteem, and belonging as they share their gifts with others, express interest in others, and interact sensitively and responsibly
GRADE I
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will discover the importance of strong communities
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and consider their own growth and how they are affected by community members
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and see the many aspects of communities, including community history, and explore your family history
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will accept and identify with those around them, while growing to understand their own responsibilities as an individual
GRADE II
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will closely study an Inuit, an Acadian, and a European community to help them understand how communities develop
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will explore how geography, language, culture, and economics—among other things—help to make each community unique
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will also examine the importance of history in shaping each community’s values, beliefs, and situations
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will begin to appreciate Canada’s vast and diverse landscape
GRADE III
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will study life in other parts of the world and discover shared ground among all people
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and examine communities in India, Tunisia, Peru, and Ukraine
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will discover common needs and how people’s quality of life varies around the world
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will explore the concept of a global community and Canada’s role within it
GRADE IV
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will examine the relationship between the geography of Canada and the history and culture of European peoples
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and explore Canada’s rich history and development
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and understand the country’s diversity, instill a sense of pride and identity, and help them value and respect the country and its people
GRADE V
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will explore Canada and its regions
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and see Canada’s history through the experiences of Aboriginal, French, British, and immigrant groups
- Students will listen, speak, read, write, view and will develop a sense of belonging and an awareness of how the multiple stories of Canadians contribute to a sense of citizenship and identity
